I know it is a bit late but I hope everybody had a great Christmas and have a prosperous New Year.

At The Memorabilia Shop we have been working hard on refurbishing the web site, it isn't finished yet but I don't know about you it is already starting to look alot better.

2012 is going to be an exciting year for us, as well as the refurb of the site we have some new Autographed Presentations available to us, the return of Torchwood Action Figures and lots of other new items. Not forgetting 2012 is also the year of the London Olympics which is going to be exciting for the whole country.

and dress up in your scariest costumes and go trick or treating. Be careful though one of those Michael Myers may be the real thing

or the freak in the ice hockey mask might be Jason Voorhees back from the dead again

and definitely do not fall asleep otherwise you may get a visit from Freddy Krueger.

If you are out and about in Cardiff tonight stay away from the shadows otherwise you may encounter a Weevil

or may get Deleted by the menacing Cybermen

or even get exterminated by the Daleks.

Peter Parker replaced as Spiderman

The first few lines in a Toys and Playthings Magazine article read:

"The iconic superhero Spiderman aka Peter Parker died in last month's issue of the Marvel comic, and now we meet his replacement, Miles Morales!"

Now that set alarm bells ringing, Spiderman is Peter Parker and Peter Parker is Spiderman, I really cannot see how they can reinvent him, it is like killing off Clark Kent and having a new Superman or Bruce Wayne replaced as Batman's alter ego.
I can understand the need to modernise things for a new market but cannot understand why they need to mess with the main characters, what next a war story with Winston Churchill replaced as the Primeminister of Great Britain.

What does everybody else think, am I way off the mark or do you agree with me?

Well Torchwood is back on our screens at long last and what a corker the first episode was. I must admit I was a bit concerned when it was announced that the series was going to join forces with American TV but those concerns have so far not come to fruition, what does everybody else think?

The special effects were good in the original series but are even better now, I am sure that is a positive of having the American influence. I do however find it a bit far fetched that the helicopter only fired one rocket at Gwen's house and then managed to put it straight through the house missing the target. Also when chasing the Land rover in the helicopter they never managed to stop it even with the high powered machine gun but I guess that is just artistic license.

Latest NPD* figures for February have confirmed LEGO Company Ltd is now the largest UK Toy manufacturer
After a period of sustained growth LEGO UK have been confirmed as the largest toy company in the UK market (February YTD). Sales in 2011 are stronger than ever and contributing significantly to achieving this position.
LEGO UK grew 28 per cent in the first two months of 2011 against a market that grew 7 per cent overall, giving the company an 8.5 per cent market share YTD, bolstered by a record 9.3 per cent market share in February. With this increased market share LEGO knocked Mattel off the number one slot to achieve pole position for the first time in the UK.

Commenting on the achievement David Buxbaum, marketing director at LEGO UK commented: “As a company we continually strive not to be the biggest, but, to be the best in the market. This is only achievable through the hard work of the tremendous team of people we have here in the UK and Ireland and the great relationship and support of our trade customers. We have a strong range for 2011 and on into 2012 and we believe this will provide us with continued growth going forward.”

“The fact that both Hasbro and Mattel also showed significant growth over this period is an encouraging reflection that the UK toy industry is booming,” he added.

Halloween traditionally on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holiday All Saints' Day, but is today largely a secular celebration.

The name Halloween was first used in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even (evening), the night before All Hallows Day. Up through the early twentieth century, the spelling "Hallowe'en" was frequently used, omitting the v and shortening the word. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English, the feast of all saints, All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556.

In those days Halloween was thought to have a more sinister side where the border between the Otherside and this world was thinner and both good and evil spirits could pass through it easier. People used to dress up as evil spirits to avoid being hurt by the passing evil spirits.

Today Halloween is largely a fun day where people decorate their houses and gardens and have Halloween parties and dress up in fancy dress as ghosts and witches, characters from horror films or even just general fancy dress and some think they have made an effort by just putting on a black bin bag. Once dressed up the children usually with an adult go from door to door playing trick-or-treat. This is is where they knock on the door and when the unsuspecting householder opens it they shout Trick or Treat. Usually the householder gives them sweets or apples but if he they don't who knows what may happen, eggs and fruit normally get thrown at the windows and doors. My daughter has been known to come away with a haul of sweets so big she has enough to last her until Christmas.

People wrongly think that Trick or Treating is an American tradition but it actually originates from Britain and Ireland. This is presumably because up until recent years it as only really been observed in America but like most things these days it is slowly coming across the Atlantic with retailers realising they can make some money out of it.

Another Halloween tradition is carving pumpkins with scary faces and putting candles inside to make jack o'lanterns.

Today Halloween has led to many films being made about the subject, especially the very succsesful Halloween Franchise of 10 films starring Michael Myers as the main murderous character and along with other scary films are watched by people on Halloween.

Michael Jackson was the self proclaimed King Of Pop and rose to fame with his brothers as The Jackson 5 and had several hits along the way such as ABC, Rockin Robin, PYT, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous and many, many more.

Michael had his fair share of controversy during his short life but brought joy and love to many millions of adoring fans and he continues to do so through his music and videos.

"Daleks"

"The Daleks are coming!"

"Daleks? Who or what are Daleks?" The young girl asked the tall, handsome stranger nervously as he stepped out of the shadows.

"and come to think of it, who on Earth are you?" The girl asked the stranger.

"Young lady, you can call me Doctor, and the Daleks, well the Daleks like to think that they are the Supreme Being."

"They will stop at nothing to conquer the Universe." The Doctor put his hand on the girls shoulder and pulled her into the shadows.

"We don't want to end up exterminated," the Doctor pulled out his Sonic Screwdriver to try and fend off any Dalek attack.

but the Daleks roll past the Timelord and the girl totally ignoring them, they decide to follow them and see where they are going.

The Daleks led the Doctor and the girl not into a trap but to a shop window,

above the shop window were the three words....................The Memorabilia Shop and on the window there was a poster saying.....

"New Dalek Section, containing everything to do with Daleks, Air Fresheners, Key rings, Party ware , Posters & more can be found HERE."

Royal Mail workers will be going on strike at the end of this week, we will be doing our very best to get all orders processed and dispatched to you as soon as possible, but for an extra piece of mind you could select the Special Delivery option and beat the Industrial Action.

Things have been a bit hectic lately round here so I haven't had much time for Blogging, I have however discovered Twitter, it would be great if you added us here and followed Memorabiliashop. I will do my very best to keep you updated with new products, competitions and other day to day goings on at The Memorabilia Shop along with a good helping of personal stuff.

It has been a sad year with the passing of Michael Jackson as I am a great fan of his music and performances and had tickets to see him at the O2 Arena in London. I will do a special feature on his products at a later date.

The last few days I have been quite busy adding new stock and also doing a little bit of design work on the web site. I have added a Dynamic Menu to the categories which I think looks far more professional. I will be adding more little bits over te coming weeks to try and improve the look of the whole website so please look out for these.

I have added some superb Film Cells and Movie Still/Celebrity Photographs of Freddy vs Jason and Jason Voorhees. Along with Friday The Thirteenth I have added some fantastic Star Trek Film Cells including: The Motion Picture, Wrath Of Khan, The Search For Spock and Insurrection with loads more to be added soon.

Friday The Thirteenth

In case it has escaped your notice, today is Friday the Thirteenth, a day which is unlucky for some but even more so for the visitors of Camp Crystal Lake all those years back in 1980. 1980 was the year the greatest movie Slasher of all time burst on to our Movie screens with his trademark Ice Hockey Mask and brutal killing methods, his name is Jason Voorhees. Several movies later including a collaboration with another great movie killer, Freddy Krueger in Freddy vs Jason he is back with a remake of the original Friday The Thirteenth film.
